Seen here is a Polyester Felt made from re-manufactured fabrics that are matted together making a successful and durable product. It is particularly good in climates that sweat and remain humid for long periods. Being synthetic it will dry out quickly, it is much lighter to fit and will not rot like the natural fibres.

The pure Wool Felt on the other hand has its benefits also. It is warmer in winter and therefore cooler in summer. Being a natural fibre it is preferred by many who want the non-toxic pure materials. It is very heavy and difficult to put on the Bigger Yurts but once on it has a particular feel and of course that distinctive authentic Mongolian sheep smell as well. The other thing is that its twice the price and twice the weight of the Synthetic Felt.

The Mongolians will apply many layers in harsh winters. This is why they use a Canvas in two pieces to allow for the thickening up of the under-layers. Green Habitat Solutions provide a Yurt that has a canvas Cover in one entire piece allowing for two layers if so wanted. If this is needed then the Yurt Frame can be adjusted to a slightly smaller frame size to accommodate this difference.
